National Diabetes Initiative (N.D.I.)

"Drive for Five" Diabetes Walk/Run
Fundraiser

In the latter part of 2008, newly installed Imperial Potentate Oliver Washington and the Imperial Divan of the Prince Hall Shriners (AEAONMS) initiated talks with the American Diabetes Association (ADA) to contemplate a collaborative effort for a philanthropic partnership. As a result, Prince Hall Shriners (AEAONMS) teamed up with the American Diabetic Association for the birth of the National Diabetes Initiative (NDI) & Prince Hall Shriners Foundation.

The Goal of the National Diabetes Initiative is a threefold undertaking:

1.      Brand the Prince Hall Shriners Foundation/A.E.A.O.N.M.S name nationally in the local, regional and print media, by increasing the notoriety of Prince Hall Shriner activities.

2.      Initiating a fundraising effort by promoting the Prince Hall Shriners Foundation as a national association with a $100,000 fundraising goal for the year; and,

3.      Create a new nationally recognized public health related activity that all Shrine Temples will participate in uniformly

The American Diabetes Association is leading the fight to STOP DIABETES and its deadly consequences for those affected by diabetes. The Association funds research to prevent, cure and manage diabetes; delivers services to hundreds of communities; provides objective and credible information; and gives voice to those denied their rights because of diabetes. Founded in 1940, its mission is to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.
